Ichobezi Houseboat

In a unique and truly inspiring place lies the “Gem of the Caprivi” – the legendary Impalila Island. Marking the confluence of the Chobe and Zambezi Rivers, the island is also distinctive in that it is the place where four countries meet – Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Zambia. It is on this island that Ichobezi River Lodges chose to locate their exclusive offerings namely Ichobezi Ichingo River Lodge, Ichobezi Moli and Ichobezi Mukwae.

The Ichobezi Moli has made the Chobe and Zambezi Rivers her very own piece of paradise and guests aboard her are privy to a very unique African travelling experience that promises ultimate luxury and unequalled natural beauty.

18 metres long, the Ichobezi Moli offers space, comfort and first-class service. She also delivers a constantly changing panorama that will keep you captivated and enthralled by the sights and wonders of this special corner of Africa.

Cruising gracefully on the waterways of this diverse area, the Ichobezi Moli is unmatched in style, elegance and pure comfort.

Four large twin cabins – All beautifully decorated with the focal feature being the large sliding window that allows you your own personal view of the changing landscapes before you. All of these windows are fitted with protective screens to ensure maximum relaxation and each room has ample storage space. The cabins also have an en-suite bathroom, each tastefully fitted with a modern shower, toilet and hand basin.

Entertainment deck – This deck provides you with access to a spacious lounge and bar area that encourages you to take time-out and simply enjoy the view. This deck also has a relaxed open-air dining area where guests can enjoy superb meals prepared by a skilful chef in the full-size onboard kitchen.

Plunge pool – At the front of the entertainment deck, guests can cool off or simply soak up the African sun on deck chairs while enjoying an ice-cold beverage and the outstanding scenery.

Dedicated tender boats – The rear of the entertainment deck allows easy access to the smaller tender boats – twelve foot, forty horsepower vessels that accompany the Ichobezi Moli on all of her travels. These boats ensure that each guest has the freedom to partake in any excursions or activities that are best suited to their own personal needs.

Launched in July 2007, the Ichobezi Mukwae offers her own singular personality to the waters of the Chobe River. Built to almost the same specifications as the Ichobezi Moli, the Ichobezi Mukwae also offers every comfort and encourages guests to luxuriate under the African sun while observing these waterways from a vantage point that is unparalleled by any other lodge in the area.

In order to add to this experience, our professional crew are always on hand to expertly navigate the rivers, share their specialist knowledge of the area and to ensure a stay on board that will remain with you long after you have returned home.

The Ichobezi Mukwae, while very similar to her sister safari boat, also has the following facilities in order to give her, her own unique identity:

Four large twin cabins – Meticulously appointed, each cabin has its own large sliding window that allows you to constantly view the changing landscapes, but in addition to this, the front cabin also has its own private balcony. All of the cabins have plenty of cupboard space and the en-suite bathrooms are all fitted with a modern shower, toilet and hand basin.

Entertainment deck – This main deck has all of the facilities to ensure that you have never-ending access to the views the rivers provide from the bar and lounge to the open-air dining area. However the Ichobezi Mukwae also has a third sun deck above the main deck that will allow even greater leverage to enjoy the sights and sounds of this unique wetland destination.

Plunge pool – The pool is situated at the front of the main deck and provides a welcome relief from the midday sun. There are also plenty of deck chairs or sun loungers for those that simply want to enjoy the African heat and take time-out from any of the activities on offer.

Sample Itenerary:

Day One

Arrive at Kasane immigration office on the banks of the Chobe River in Botswana at 13h30. The staff from the Ichobezi Safariboat will meet you there and assist you in exiting out of Botswana and then take you by tender boat across the Chobe River to Impalila Island (about ten minutes) where you will enter into Namibia. Both of these border controls merely entails filling out a form and getting a stamp in your passport. Once you have entered into Namiba it is a short boat ride to the Ichobezi Safariboat.

On arrival the Safariboat manager will greet you with a welcome drink and show you to your cabin. Once you have settled in a light lunch will be served in the dining area. During lunch the Safariboat will begin to cruise along the Chobe River giving you the opportunity to enjoy this beautiful part of Africa from the comfort of the boat. A few hours later the Safariboat will dock for the evening and your guide will pack an ice box with your favourite drinks and take you by smaller tender boat to meander along the banks of the Chobe National Park and appreciate the spectacular beauty of the Chobe sunset.

A 3-course plated dinner is served at 20h00 and this will give you the opportunity to meet your hosts and to leave the table with a greater understanding of the area, the history, the local people and the importance of this very unique part of Africa.

Day Two

The day is entirely yours and you are free to spend it as you like. You can laze around the sun deck just watching the constant coming and goings of the wildlife and birds around you. You can take a tender boat with a guide and go looking for up close and personal sightings of the game and get extraordinary photo opportunities. Or you can go off fishing to try and catch (and then release) the elusive Tiger fish.

Generally breakfast is served at 08h30 and lunch at 13h00 but we are very flexible so if you would like to re-arrange these times to suit you better you would just need to let us know at dinner the night before (i.e. if you want to get up really early and then come back for brunch at 10h30 or 11h00 this would be perfectly fine with us).

Dinner is served at 20h00.

Day Three

Transfer by tender boat from the Ichobezi Safariboat at 09h00 to the customs office on Impalila Island to exit out of Namibia. From there you will again cross the Chobe River to enter into Botswana at the Kasane immigration. Your transfer company will meet you at 10h00 for your transfer onto your next destination.
