About Tiger fishing

In the game fishing world, the tiger fish is often referred to as the Southern African version of a piranha even though it belongs to another family entirely. They are similar to the piranha as they have razor sharp teeth that interlock as well as streamline muscular bodies. They are widely known as aggressive and able killers who often hunt in groups.

The most common species of Alestidaeare the Goliath tigerfish and the tigerfish. The Goliath tigerfish can reach a size of around 50 kg’s (the largest of the tigerfish) and they are usually found in the Congo River system and Lake Tanganyika. The other most common one is found in the Zambezi River, lake Kariba, Cabora Bassa and Jozini Dam.
